Fryer's Cove - Vineyard, Winery and Restaurant in Doringbaai, Cape West Coast, Western Cape
Situated along the largely unspoiled coastline of the West Coast lies Doringbaai, home to a small but hardy fishing community and arguably the world’s closest vineyard to the Atlantic Ocean.
Welcome to Fryer’s Cove.
Miles up the Cape West coast where the freezing Atlantic Ocean meets the desolate coastline, lies one of the most unique wineries in the world.
Forged of the earth and tempered by the sea, the vines at Fryer’s Cove bear fruit in the most hostile of landscapes, where the perfect set of circumstances conspire to create a range of unique, award-winning wines with an unmistakable sense of place.
Fryer’s Cove is the only vineyard within the Bamboes Bay ward on the Cape West Coast, which is also the smallest ward in South Africa.
In 1999, the first vines of Fryer's Cove were planted amongst beach vegetation. This area, which is only 540m from the sea and about 20m above sea level, is sought after for its ideal climate which translates into the prominently unique flavour and character of Fryer's Cove wine.
Our wines may be able to hold their own on tables and menus across the globe, but their humble beginnings in a small West Coast fishing village is where they like to let their hair down. In their natural habitat paired with home-cooked west coast favourites such as Snoekkoekies (fish cakes), Kerrievis (pickled fish) and Roosterkoek is where our wines truly shine.
As waves crash at your feet and seagulls soar across the skies, the local cries of the fishermen remind us of where it all comes together. Great food enhanced by great wines and even better company.
