Wilderness might be a small village but the breath-taking scenery of forests, lakes, mountains and coastline makes it feel like an endless paradise, as it is renowned for its wide open beaches and beautiful lagoon system. Situated between George and Sedgefield, Wilderness has "that holiday feeling" all-year-round.
The Outeniqua Mountains lie to the north and the Indian Ocean to the south with the Kaaimans River in the west and the Goukamma Nature Reserve in the east. Wilderness is just a short 10km from the city of George on the N2 over the Kaaimans River Pass, for easy access to shopping malls and other amenities.
The Wilderness section (Ebb-and-Flow Rest Camp) of the Garden Route National Park stretches from the Touw River mouth to beyond the Swartvlei estuary and links with the Goukamma Nature Reserve. The nature reserve protects five lakes and the Serpentine. The Serpentine is the winding strip of water joining Island Lake to the Touw River at Ebb-and-Flow.
When visiting Wilderness one can expect to enjoy hiking, mountain-biking, kloofing, bird and whale watching, paragliding, horse riding, scenic drives, angling, boating, canoeing as well as many other water sports.

There are several hiking trails including the Bosbok Trail, Browhooded Kingfisher Trail, Half-Collared Kingfisher Trail, The Pied Kingfisher Trail and Wilderness Heritage Trail.
