Breyten is a small farming town situated in the Grass and Wetlands region of Mpumalanga, South Africa.

Geography and History

Breyton is at situated at the foot of Klipstapel, the highest point on the watershed between the Westward flowing Vaal River system and the Eastward flowing Olifants and Komati River systems.  The source of the Vaal River lies about 2kms from the town.

Breyten is dependent on the mines that surround it. Tselentis, Spitzkop and other mines employ the majority of the people in the town. 

In the town there is a craft centre in the old railway station, where there is a weaving industry which provide beautiful hand made woolen products.

As well as being surrounded by maize, sheep and cattle farming, Breyten is quickly becoming known for its apple farming.

Breyton has a range of accommodation options available from Bed and Breakfasts, Self Catering units and Guest Houses.

Activities

There are plenty of activites to keep visitors to the area busy. These include angling, hiking, bird watching, horse riding, clay pigeon shooting and hunting.  As well as 4x4 trails.

There are many restaurants on offer in Breyton to suit every visitors budget.  There is a great selection of restaurants, coffee shops and pubs to choose from!
