Hoedspruit is located in the Mopani region of the Limpopo province in South Africa. The town sits at the base of the Klein Drakensberg mountains. Hoedspruit is situated on the railway line from Tzaneen to Kaapmuiden.
Hoedspruit's main advantage is its proximity to the Kruger National Park and the privately owned lodges of Timbavati Private Nature Reserve and Klaserie Private Nature Reserve. It has the added convenience of having and airport.
This small town is one of South Africa's major eco-tourist destinations to visit game lodges and private reserves. The countryside rich in game and open spaces is an adventure lovers paradise. It is surrounded by the largest conservation area in the world and specialises in mango and citrus fruit production.
Most of the rainfall here occurs in the mid-summer months with it being its coldest in July.
The Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre prides itself on the rehabilitation of snakes, lizards, crocodiles, tortoises, frogs, spiders and scorpions. The centre is open for tours. The Nyani Tribal Village, reflecting an authentic Shangaan village is well worth a visit, while the Blydepoort or Swadini Dam has a variety of water-based activities, located only 35kms away. These are only a few of the activities and attractions on offer in Hoedspruit.
